Our HistoryThe NY Education Policy Leadership Program was launched in 1981-82 as the New York chapter of the Education Policy Fellowship Program (EPFP), partnering with the Institute for Educational Leadership in Washington DC. In 2020, the NY site became a NY-based program, the NY Education Policy Leadership Program (NY EPLP). Over the years, the program has been sponsored at graduate schools of education, including New York University and most recently Teachers College, Columbia University from 1993 to 2022.
In August 2022, we worked with Dr. Margaret Terry Orr, Division Chair and Director of the Ed.D in Educational Leadership, Administration and Policy program at Fordham University Graduate School of Education to move the program to Fordham. The Putnam | Northern Westchester BOCES Center for Education Leadership has long been a program co-sponsor and also provides administrative program support. The NY EPLP continues to partner with similar programs in other states for joint experiences such as the Regional Leadership Forum. |

Alumni Learning Opportunities
Advanced EPLP (AEPLP) was launched in 2021. The NY Coordinators, Bob Monson and Lisa Davis, partnered with their peer Education Policy Program state site coordinators to develop an Advanced Education Policy Leadership Program (AEPLP) Consortium for alumni. This collaborative year-long experience includes up to 35 Senior Fellows from Kansas, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Missouri, New York, Ohio and Pennsylvania, and features five monthly virtual half-day sessions and an in-person two-day symposium in Washington DC. AEPLP is geared to those with a strong passion for advancing policy, as it provides an in-depth, strategic dive into education policy and leadership issues, with extensive opportunities for multi-state interactions.
Global Education Policy Fellowship Program (GEPFP) provides alumni with the opportunity to study education policy in the Age of Globalization by investigating education development challenges in economically developed and developing countries. GEPFP is a unique experience open to senior level leaders with an interest in global education policy, that combines monthly online learning with an international field experience. GEPFP Fellows have participated in field experiences in Bhutan, China, Germany and Switzerland, Iceland, India, and the United Kingdom.
